It is so easy to fall back on the convenience of modern language and spoken word when communicating in today’s world that we often forget to pay attention to the real language which is being spoken of course you will do this somewhat naturally but really focusing in on what somebody is doing with their body language.

This book teaches you pretty much everything you need to know about body language and shows you exactly how to use non-verbal communication effectively in order to attract people, influence them, and understand or predict their behavior. The author does a great job at providing information in a clear, factual manner, which can be easily comprehended and applied.

In Black and Green, Kiran Asher provides a powerful framework for reconceptualizing the relationship between neoliberal development and social movements. Moving beyond the notion that development is a hegemonic, homogenizing force that victimizes local communities, Asher argues that development processes and social movements shape each other in uneven and paradoxical ways. She bases her argument on ethnographic analysis of the black social movements that emerged from and interacted with political and economic changes in Colombia’s Pacific lowlands, or Chocó region, in the 1990s.

The Pacific region had yet to be overrun by drug traffickers, guerrillas, and paramilitary forces in the early 1990s. It was better known as the largest area of black culture in the country (90 percent of the region’s population is Afro-Colombian) and as a supplier of natural resources, including timber, gold, platinum, and silver. Colombia’s Law 70, passed in 1993, promised ethnic and cultural rights, collective land ownership, and socioeconomic development to Afro-Colombian communities. At the same time that various constituencies sought to interpret and implement Law 70, the state was moving ahead with large-scale development initiatives intended to modernize the economically backward coastal lowlands. Meanwhile national and international conservation organizations were attempting to protect the region’s rich biodiversity. Asher explores this juxtaposition of black rights, economic development, and conservation—and the tensions it catalyzed. She analyzes the meanings attached to “culture,” “nature,” and “development” by the Colombian state and Afro-Colombian social movements, including women’s groups. In so doing, she shows that the appropriation of development and conservation discourses by the social movements had a paradoxical effect. It legitimized the presence of state, development, and conservation agencies in the Pacific region even as it influenced those agencies’ visions and plans.

I could not put this book down. I read it in one day. Finally..... Answers that make sense!!!!!!

I grew up in the church hearing answers to the BIG questions like "What is the purpose to all of this?" and "Why am I here?" but never really heard an answer that made sense. Most of the sermons ended with statements like, "You just have to have faith" or "You must not have the Holy Spirit or you would understand" or "Once you get to heaven you'll be happy just praising God forever"

As an adult I took theology and apologetics classes to try and get answers that not only made sense to me but that I could confidently share with others.

Mr. Kovacs doesn't make the scriptures do spiritual back flips to support a denominational or theological agenda. He just lets the Bible speak for itself. God used this book to truly change my life. Once you know the purpose behind things and the end result, life just gets a whole lot easier.

Now, my children are asking me those same though questions like "Where's Grandma now?" and "What will happen to me when I die?" As a parent the biggest blessing came when I was able to answer their questions and they looked at me and said "Wow...mom...Thank you. That makes sense!"

I encourage everybody to read this book. You won't be sorry and your children might even thank you for it!

The Divine Secret Revealed

Kovacs does a remarkable job of bringing the Words of Scripture to life with respect to the destiny of man. If you have ever wondered--and who has not?--what is the purpose of this vain life, then this book is a must read. It explains in compelling detail from the Words of Scripture why God created the earth and man to dwell in it and for what purpose.

What is amazing is that what Kovacs characterizes in the title of the book as a Divine Secret is in fact a Divine Revelation. The key? Perhaps the key is not the secret itself but the methodology Kovacs describes in the introduction of his book: "I do something surprisingly simple. I open the Bible, read the words on its pages, and actually believe them."

What an innovative way to look at the Scriptures. Simple. Profound. True. Actually believing and not just professing! What a concept!

This book is for anyone interested in the truth of Scripture.

Excellent Thought-Provoking Perspective on Reading/Studying the Bible

I just finished reading 'The Divine Secret' by Joe Kovacs! I especially like the references to God's spoken words highlighted in red from the Old Testament. As well, I appreciated reading verses from the different versions of the Bible. The concept of Mr. Kovacs' book is awesome and has really boosted my Christian beliefs as I search my Bible for answers to issues I face each day! (I am fortunate to have a version of the KJV with God's words in red in the Old Testament, and it really helps studying.) I will go back to 'The Divine Secret' again! It is well worth reading!

The Rev. Father Albert J. Herbert, S.M., is a priest and author of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. He is the author of two saint-oriented spiritual works: A Prayerbook of Favorite Litanies and Saints who Raised the Dead. The former, compiled by Father Herbert, was first published circa 1985 with the Nihil Obstat, Imprimatur, and Imprimi Potest. I bought this book and amazed with the true stories of the Saints with in Catholic Church. I strongly believe every Catholics, including the priests and nuns must read this book. I am really thrilled to be a Catholic after reading the stories of St. Vincent Ferrer. What an amazing gifts of Heaven. As the Word of God says, Since I am going to Heaven you can greater miracle than I (Jesus). And the Catholic Church already proven that. Be a Catholic what else is needed!!! and gain eternal life.

OUTSTANDING

Despite the exotic and interesting topic, this is not an obviously exciting read. Powlison is not a particularly sharp or polished writer. Basically humorless, sometimes ponderous, nevertheless this is a truly exceptional book. Powlison (Ivy League Ph.D., ex-missionary, full-time counsellor) has thought deeply about his subject and he makes an unanswerable case. His critique is compassionate, balanced, and generous. Honestly, this is the most important book I have read all year.

a much-needed balanced discourse on spiritual warfare

One who sincerely desires to know how to approach the evidence of demonic activity in the world, need not have to attend every spiritual warfare conference and strategy session available. In the context of God's Word, the author takes the reader through the questions and issues that can cause the Christian to often throw his hands in the air. The author's genuine look at Satan's strategy leaves the reader with hope in how we can stand in Christ. While it's not a biased polemic defense and is not exhaustive in its coverage, it does speak of dramatic events occuring around the world in light of truth. The book shows God's powerful and loving perspective when it comes to standing against all the enemy's attacks.

Powlison gives a very strong argument for why modern "demon-deliverance" ministries miss the mark. If you are involved in such ministry, you need to read this book - it will at the very least challenge some of your beliefs and practices (it did for me).

Well, this was surprising!

I'm starting to really get into the "Midnight Matings" series. This one was quirky and unpredictable. The legendary phoenix is accidentally mated to another magical being. The sex is "scorching" but the story isn't taken over by it. For those of you who read a lot of who-done-its, you'll figure out who the bad guy is fairly quickly. Not to worry, this is still entertaining.

Twenty five years ago the Great War decimated paranormal society. At this Great Gathering in Scotland the Elders announce to everyone that they are tired of the squabbles between the various species. Taking matters into their own hands the Elders have cast a spell to insure mating will occur for everyone there. They have 24 hours to find a mate or suffer grave consequences.

As Asher Deacon hears the Elders decision he decides to leave and take his chances. Dodging and weaving his way out of the ballroom Asher can't help noticing the tall, hot blonde fighting off unwelcome suitors. Zaiden Reed, a sprite manages to get out of the room and finds a like minded soul in Asher. But before they can figure out a way to leave the castle the mating heat takes hold and mates Zaiden to the sexy little phoenix.

Choosing to make the best of a difficult situation, especially after they suffer from not reading the Elder's written instructions, Asher and Deacon begin to realize that fate might have done them a favor. Unfortunately it seems that someone else isn't so happy with their mating when their home is vandalized and threats are sent. The fragile bond they were forming is unraveling before Zaiden and Asher's eyes. If the culprit isn't found soon this mating will end in disaster.

Fire and Ash is a character driven suspense filled love story. Strong willed Asher and sensible Zaiden are a well matched pair who are nudged into a mating they didn't want, yet fate knew they were meant to be. Regardless of the paranormal aspect they are a balanced couple falling in love when trouble strikes. Fiery Asher handles their problems better than the normally level headed Zaiden. There are interesting twists and turns between the mates and their nemesis. Tensions build and dangers heighten for the lovers in Fire and Ash. Entertaining from start to finish.
