About the Author
Louis P. Pojman (1935-2005) was Professor of Philosophy, Emeritus, at the United States Military Academy and a Life Member of Clare Hall, Cambridge University. He received an M.A. and Ph.D. from Union Theological Seminary/Columbia University. He was a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Copenhagen and a Rockefeller Fellow at Hamburg University. He received his D.Phil. in Philosophy from Oxford University in 1997.His first position was at the University of Notre Dame, after which he taught at the University of Texas at Dallas. Later, at the University of Mississippi, he served for three years as Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion. In 1995, he became Professor of Philosophy at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He most recently was Visiting Professor at Brigham Young University in Utah and Visiting Fellow at Clare Hall, Oxford University. Pojman won several research and teaching awards, including the Burlington Northern Award for Outstanding Teaching and Scholarship (1988) and the Outstanding Scholar/Teacher in the Humanities at the University of Mississippi (1994). He wrote in the areas of philosophy of religion, epistemology, ethics, and political philosophy and authored or edited more than 30 books and 100 articles. Louis Pojman passed away in 2005.

A Comprehensive Reader

One thing for certain about any anthology compiled by the late Louis Pojman (and continued by his successors) is that the product will be complete and unbiased. I've lost count of how many anthologies Pojman has compiled on various areas of philosophy, but of the several with which I'm familiar, all of them are excellent resources. "Ethical Theory" is no exception.

Just about every major issue and tradition in theoretical ethics is covered in this anthology--relativism and objectivism, egoism, value, utilitarianism, Kantianism, virtue ethics, religion and ethics, morality and self-interest, as well as several other topics. For most of these topics there is a blend of classical and contemporary selections, one that is balanced between the various positions that have been taken on the issues.

Because of the wide range of issues covered and the many selections, "Ethical Theory" contains far more than can possibly be discussed in a semester. However, this is a benefit rather than a drawback, for whether one is teaching a lower-division college-level class or a graduate seminar in ethical theory, there is plenty material to draw on in the Pojman anthology.

However, be forewarned. This is not a book for a trendy applied ethics class. This anthology is best suited for a traditional course in ethical theory.

A great and thorough anthology

"Ethical Theory" is another great anthology compiled by the late Louis Pojman and continued by his successors. While he was alive, Pojman produced anthologies in several areas of philosophy, all of them relatively complete and unbiased. "Ethical Theory" is no exception.

Almost every major issue and tradition in theoretical ethics is covered––relativism and objectivism, egoism, value, utilitarianism, Kantianism, virtue ethics, religion and ethics, morality and self-interest, as well as several other topics. Most of these topics contain a blend of classical and contemporary selections, one balanced between the various positions on the issues.

"Ethical Theory" contains far more than can possibly be discussed and digested in a semester. However, this is a benefit rather than a drawback. Whether one is teaching an introductory college-level class or a graduate seminar in ethical theory, there is plenty material to draw on.

Clear, straightforward content made applicable in the real world.

This book is written in a clear manner that I feel is easy to relate to and to also apply to the real world. It also helped me get an A in class so 5 stars. The only gripe I have is that due to the nature of technology and how rapid it advances, this book may be outdated one day, but the concepts about databases and business processes will probably remain constant for a many decades. So what I'm saying is that, this book will still be useful to you even when outdated.

Comprehensive book regarding the technology systems to be implemented within companies. The authors provides a number of real life exmaples of companies that have successfully implemented technology improvements to improve company returns. It is a very useful book.

Delivery good, product was the right product... But as Universities due the Professor required the purchase but I never used the book. I believe the Univerities get kick backs for making students purchase these books.

About the Author
Dr. Peter O'Neil has been a professor of mathematics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham since 1978. At the University of Alabama at Birmingham, he has served as chairman of mathematics, dean of natural sciences and mathematics, and university provost. Dr. Peter O'Neil has also served on the faculty at the University of Minnesota and the College of William and Mary in Virginia, where he was chairman of mathematics. He has been awarded the Lester R. Ford Award from the Mathematical Association of America. He received both his M.S and Ph.D. in mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His primary research interests are in graph theory and combinatorial analysis.
